Hello Breadtopians,

This Saturday morning, I will be offering home delivery.  

Reply to this message or email sourdough@rogers.com to submit your order for pickup at market or home delivery and include your street address as well as any special delivery instructions that might apply.  Payment is accepted by cash or alternatively by etransfer to rsfraser@rogers.com.

Deadline for orders:  Noon on Friday.  Order early to avoid disappointment!

Available as a braid or square loaf.  Also available topped with sesame seeds, poppy seeds or plain.  Please specify when ordering.

Sesame Emmer

This new addition to the lineup incorporates flour from Emmer, a flavourful ancient grain.  Milled fresh in-house like our spelt and rye flours.  Organically grown in British Columbia.

Emmer (or Farro) is a hybrid of einkorn and wild grasses and was first domesticated almost 10,000 years ago in the Fertile Crescent. Emmer has been enjoyed by Italians for centuries — it provided sustenance for the Roman legions around the turn of the first millennium — and is still cultivated in Italy. It’s also a traditional food in Ethiopia.

Emmer wheat fell out of favour in the 1960s as modern bread wheat became desirable, but started to enjoy a resurgence in Europe and North America in the 1990s.
